How to Build a Craps Table

How to Build a Craps Table

This is one very interesting topic as I have always wondered how a Craps table is made, and since I’ve loved the game for over 20 years, always wanted one of my own.

I honestly believe that a finished Craps table can be classified as a piece of art.

I have limited space so I need to have a mini tub style 1.8m (6ft) – 2.4m (8ft)

I’ve looked and looked for a place that sells them but alas can’t seem to find anywhere. If you know of somewhere please leave me a comment.

In the absence of buying one, I’ll have to make one, or convince someone else with more woodworking skills and equipment to build one for me as a worthy project. I’m thinking maybe one of the local Mens Sheds would be able to help me out for a nice donation to their very worthy cause.

I think it all starts with the felt layout, so I’m going to source that first and then build the table up around it.

I’ll be documenting the journey, which is the purpose of this website for my own selfish diarised record and others will benefit as well.

In the mean time I’ve scoured the internet looking for “how to build a craps table” resources and found that quite a few people have the same idea.

Out of all the designs you can pick and chose how you want to build your craps table. Take ideas from each of them and model to your requirements.

Breaking Vegas – Dice Dominator

Breaking Vegas – Dice Dominator

Just found this documentary about Craps which for me was very interesting, but for those that have been around this niche for awhile this story will be old news.

And then found this interesting snippet from over here at Smart Gaming

How accurate was the History Channel show (The Dice Dominator) about you?

The show put me in with a dice control team at the beginning of my career and that the classes they taught were actually to get members for their team. Not so. That team bet low stakes and I was never involved with them. Also, most of the players on that team were not really all that skilled so that was inaccurate. Both Frank Scoblete and I discussed the Captain, the man who started all this dice control stuff in the modern casino, and his partner the Arm for several hours with the producer but none of that appeared in the show. However, the show did portray accurately how I am in a casino and the work I put in to the developing of my skill. Frank Scoblete, unfortunately, was portrayed as someone who was a lowlife instead of someone with three master’s degrees who is a real gentleman.

My first dice

My first dice

After stumbling onto dicesetter.com, or more to the point initially Pablos videos of Beau the Dice Coach on YouTube, I figured I needed a set of dice to practice with. Now I don’t have set of casino dice or a practice rig yet but I wasn’t going to let that stop me.

I found a pair of dice that the kids had left lying around and claimed them as my own, and started setting them and tossing them into my open laptop. Unconventional yes but I needed to do something. The dice would bounce all over the place, but I’m telling myself that I’m familiarising myself with the dice, and learning the different combinations of the dice faces.

My day job takes up about 80 hours per week of my time, so I’m very time restricted. And yes as you can tell I work in IT. Hence the website to document my journey.

I sold off some unused house items, an exercise bike and a ride on mower, so I now have $600 to use as my first learning money at the casino.

For those that have watched the movie Nemo, I will echo the words of Dory but with a craps twist.

Just keep rolling.

How to play Craps – Video

How to play Craps – Video

After my recent visit to Treasury Casino I thought it was high time that I actually learnt the rules and what the different areas of the Craps table were for. My friend Steve asked me what the Come and Don’t Come areas were, and what the Horn Bet was but I couldn’t tell him. Considering I had just introduced him to the game that I’ve been playing since 1992 I felt very embarrassed.

I reached straight out to youtube to find this 40 minute video which is very nicely produced and it explained all the rudimentary parts of the game. I look back on it now and kick myself for not learning about the game that I have played for so long and enjoyed, and now think of all the different plays I could have made.

My consolation. It’s never to late.
